Nestled between two volcanos, Volcan Tenorio and Volcan Miravalles, La Carolina Lodge is the perfect place to really get away from it all.
For the more discerning traveler in search of the real heartland of Costa Rica, this is one of the best places to discover it.
Here you can relax on the grounds of a working ranch that owns 170 acres of land, half of which is given over to cattle farming while the other has been left in its natural tropical forest state. The forest is home to a wide range of mammals and birds and you may be lucky enough to see toucans, hummingbirds, sloths or kinkajous. If you take a hike up into the hills of the ranch you will be rewarded with views of both volcanos.

Rooms
The main lodge sits atop the lush forest and flowing river with a wide porch containing hammocks and rocking chairs. It has 4 bedrooms with 2 shared bathrooms. (3 Doubles and one large room with 7 single beds for groups).
There are also 4 private houses:
- one separate private house with 3 double beds and one private bathroom
- two separate private cabins with fireplaces both one double bed and private bathrooms
- one secluded private house with two bedrooms and one bathroom inside our property (10 minute walk from the main lodge or reachable by 4x4).
Rates
Rates are on an all-inclusive basis. They include your breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as horse-back riding and guided hikes. Cost for a single person is $65 US per night otherwise the cost is $55 US per person for a double. Children under 5 stay free, children aged 5 to 12 stay at half price.
Activities
Activities are based around experiencing the nature around you to its fullest.
You can take half or full day guided hikes that take in the Rio Celeste which is famous for its shimmering blue colour due to the cobalt deposits in its waters. It flows on the north/east flank of the Volcan Tenorio a volcano active with fumaroles, hot springs and mud pots! 
Horse riding opportunities abound, either for beginners or the experienced. You can take a guide or head out on your own (for the experienced) - whichever you would prefer.
Day trips can also be organized off site to other attractions, such as the Las Pumas wildcat rescue center, Volcano Arenal and the Pacific beaches.

Location
La Carolina Lodge is located in the town of San Miguel close to Bijagua. From the Interamericana you would take the road signposted to Upala in a North East direction. We can arrange a transfer for you from Liberia Airport at a cost of $90 US.
It is about a 1 1/2 hour drive from Liberia Airport and 2 1/2 hours to the beaches of the north Pacific.
