1. It's cheaper than hiring private tranfers if you intend to travel a lot.

2. It gives you more flexibility on your trip. This is especially beneficial when staying at hotels several kilometers away from the nearest town or population center.

3. If you are the adventurous type you will enjoy driving on our 'I-can't-believe-this-is-a-road!' roads.

1. Reading all that fine print in your contract. 'Er, sorry but can you explain Point 4, subsection 2b just one more time?'.

2. Expensive (very expensive) dents and scratches.

3. Since most car rental agencies use similar types of vehicles everybody will know you're a tourist, which may attract a burgler who on breaking a window will discover that you have wisely taken all your belongings out of the car... He will still cost you a couple hundred $$ for that broken window though.

4. Driving on our famous 'I-can't-believe-this-is-a-road!' roads.

It's fair to say this, however: We have rented cars for a number of years now and have never, ever had a problem. We just follow common sense and everything works out perfectly.
