Activities available at the Buena Vista Lodge

At Buena Vista Lodge, you can experience first hand the nature and wildlife of the tropical humid forest.

A wide range of activities caters to every kind of guest.You can relax in the hot spring spa, hike trails on the property, go horseback riding, or enjoy the beautiful waterfalls.

For those adventurous guests, there is also a 420 meter waterslide through the forest and an entire system of ziplines that send you soaring through the canopy.

Canopy Tour You’ll get a whole new perspective while zipping through the canopy of the tropical humid forest on a series of 10 cables and 11 elevated platforms.  The average length of the cables is 60 meters (197 feet) and the entire canopy tour spans 657 meters (2155 feet).  The tour usually lasts about an hour, depending on the size of the group.  Well-trained guides will assist you with putting on the necessary equipment including a harness, helmet and other accessories.  The guides carefully check that you are dressed appropriately to ensure that your experience is comfortable and safe.  Buena Vista Lodge has strict safety measures and use only the best equipment for guests and guides.  After a short scenic ten minute hike you will arrive at the first platform where your thrilling ride begins.  Using a system of pulleys you will soar through the treetops on zipline cables stopping on each platform briefly.   Depending on the time of year and weather conditions, it's possible to see a great variety of flora and fauna in the canopy.
Hot Spring Spa	The Hot Spring Spa is a hidden paradise surrounded by forest, streams, and wildlife.  The spa includes five hot spring pools, with varying temperatures.   In addition to the pools, there's a beautiful sauna constructed of rocks where you can relax and soak up the heat.  Also available at this luxurious spa you can revitalize your skin with volcanic mud.
After stepping into the nearby showers the volcanic mud will leave your skin feeling smooth and healthy.  Bathrooms, changing rooms including lockers and towels, as well as a bar and a cafeteria are all at your convenience while you are visiting the Spa. There are various ways to access this hot springs.  By walking you will arrive in 1 hour, by horse in 40 minutes, and by tractor in 20 minutes.
	Waterslide The Buena Vista Lodge waterslide is one of a kind in Costa Rica.  Built completely in the humid tropical forest, this tubular shaped 420 meter (1,365 feet) long slide guarantees a thrill of a lifetime!  To make your ride even more exciting we offer inner tubes and leather protectors.  In the waterslide area you’ll also find bathrooms, towels and helmets
The Waterfalls Breath taking waterfalls are hidden deep within the forest and originate from the River Salitral, which begins on the outskirts of the Rincón de la Vieja Volcano.   You can reach these waterfalls either by horseback or on foot.  A horseback ride to the falls lasts about 3 hours while walking usually takes about four and a half hours.  Either way, you will enjoy the impressive views of the Guanacaste savannah.  On the way you will have the chance to see many different types of animals such as spider monkeys, white faced monkeys, howler monkeys, agoutis, deer, squirrels, coatis and ant eaters as well as many birds like the toucan, motmot, bell bird and the aracari.
Aerial Trail / Hanging Bridges The aerial trail gives you a whole new perspective of the humid tropical forest.  From a series of aerial bridges you can observe a wide array of fauna and flora while hiking high in the treetops.  The aerial bridges are a total of 780 meters (2,535 feet) long and the entire walk usually takes guests about one and a half hours to complete.  Expert nature guides help you identify plants and animals during your walk.  From your view from above you may be lucky enough to see coatis, armadillos, deer, white face and howler monkeys and great variety of birds like toucans, motmots and bellbirds.  The journey begins near the waterslide and ends near the last platform of the canopy tour.  The bridges are also a beautiful way to walk from the waterfall to the hot spring spa.
Bird Watching Wake up to melodic bird song on the bird watching tour. A guide who specializes in native birds will help you spot birds and identify their calls. Unique birds such as toucans, long tailed manakin, crested guan, and various jays can be found along the trails during this tour. The tour lasts 2 hours beginning at 6:00 am.
Bushmaster Herpetological Park The Herpetological Park is a conservation and education center where guests can learn all about Costa Rican reptiles and amphibians. This diverse collection includes many types of snakes, poison dart frogs, and leaf frogs. The center is named in honor of the largest viper in the Americas called the Bushmaster (Lachesis  melanocephala).  The Bushmaster is one of the most amazing animals of the neotropics. The collection of reptiles and amphibians is divided into four separate species sections. The tour begins with a close look at the common snake. As you continue you will see the coral snake, one of the most venomous snakes in the world. There is also an extensive collection dedicated to boas and vipers. At the end of the tour there's a realistic rainforest stimulation where you can see frogs hopping on the forest floor and butterflies fluttering among the trees
The Buena Vista Combo (Full Day Tour) The Buena Vista Combo is a full day tour that includes the canopy tour, our thrilling waterslide and a visit to the hot springs spa.  Throughout your day you’ll also be able to enjoy the peace of the naturally stunning forest. You will be led by experienced guides during your tour.  A delicious buffet lunch full of traditional Costa Rican specialities is also included in the Buena Vista Combo.
